Project One: Lighting Refinements/ Chiaroscuro

In our first project we were tasked with creating an image that has a still life painting look to it, as well as creating an image with the chiaroscuro lighting effect. Flags, bounce cards and reposition of lighting was used to create these two looks.

Project Two: Shutter Speed Bracketing/ Blending Flash with Continuous Light

In our second project, we were tasked with creating multiple images at varying shutter speeds to understand how a combination of flash and constant lighting can create different effects in an image. This taught us how pairing a flash and a constant light with gel can change the colors in an image.

Project Three: Metallic

In project three we were tasked with creating an image of a metallic object. So, I thought using wrenches would be a good idea. I like how the white line turned out on the 3/4 wrench, as well as the flares on the 9/16th wrench. I had hung up all of these wrenches using fishing line and tried to create an image where they were all positioned in a direction I had wanted. After discussion with my professor, it would have been better to photograph them all individually and create a composite image in photoshop. Now I know for next time!

Project Four: Focus Stacking

In project four, we were tasked with using the focus stacking technique to create two images. The goal was to use these focus stacked images to create a detailed image of something close up, as well as creating an image with a blurred background, but having the subject in focus without having to use a wide aperture. The first image is a of a watch my grandfather had given me. The second image is sushi that became my dinner after the shoot.

Project Five: Glassware

In project five we were tasked with creating two images using the techniques we have learned so far in class. These two images will be used by a designer to create a magazine cover and a double truck spread. Using black line and white line photography techniques, these were the results.

Project Six: Architectural Interior

In project six we were tasked with creating a three picture mini-series of an architectural interior space. Then in Photoshop/ Lightroom, we combine bracketed images to create an HDR composite image. I made these images in St. Paul Catholic church in Athens, Ohio. Images were made using tilt-shift lenses to retain straight lines inside of the building.

Project Seven: Architectural Exterior

In project seven we were tasked with creating a three picture mini-series of an architectural exterior space during blue hour/ golden hour. Then in Photoshop/ Lightroom, we combine bracketed images to create an HDR composite image. I made these images at the Ohio University Convocation Center and the Ohio University Chilled Water Plant. Images were made using tilt-shift lenses to retain straight lines of the buildings.

Final Project: Outdoor Recreation Equipment

In our final project, we were tasked with creating a series of images that had a continuous theme throughout. We used the skills and ideas from prior projects to create a varying set of images with different compositions and lighting techniques. I wanted to create a series of images that could be used in an outdoor recreation magazine or online store. I used props that I had owned and a few borrowed ones to create these images.
